Privacy policy

Your cards stay yours.

Franki is made to work without knowing who you are. This page says what the app and this website do with your information, which is very little.

Effective 21 October 2026

The short version

What stays on your device

Your decks, cards, pictures, recorded sounds, review history and settings are stored on your iPhone or Mac. If you use the widgets or Apple Watch app, Franki shares what they need (such as your next due card and how many cards are due) between the app, its widgets and your Watch, on your own devices.

iCloud sync

Decks, cards, images and review history sync through your private iCloud database, so they follow you to a new phone or an iPad. This data is stored by Apple in your iCloud account, under Apple's privacy policy. It's private to your Apple Account: the developer can't read it. You can see and manage the iCloud data apps keep in your Apple Account's iCloud settings on your iPhone or Mac.

Making cards with AI

When you ask Franki to write cards from your notes, a photo, a scanned page, a PDF or a web page, the text is processed on your device by Apple Intelligence. Nothing you give it is sent to the developer or to any AI service. Explain This Card and Improve This Card also run on the device.

Deck links

A deck can be shared as a link to franki.wiki/open. The deck is inside the link, after the #, and browsers never send that part to a server. On a device with Franki, the link opens the app and the deck is read there. Anywhere else, franki.wiki/open reads the deck in your browser to show it, so this website's host sees only a visit to that page, not the deck. A link made in Franki holds the deck's cards as text: not your progress, pictures or sounds.

Franki's connector for Claude and ChatGPT

If you add Franki's connector to Claude or ChatGPT, your AI sends the cards it wrote for you to mcp.franki.wiki, which turns them into a deck link and sends the link back. Only those cards reach it, not your conversation, and it asks for no sign-in. When you use it in Claude or ChatGPT, the request comes from Anthropic's or OpenAI's servers, not your device. The connector is hosted by Cloudflare; it keeps nothing and doesn't log the cards. What you say to Claude or ChatGPT is covered by Anthropic's or OpenAI's own privacy policy.

Web pages

Franki only goes online to read a web page when you ask Generate to read one. It downloads that page directly from the site you entered, as a browser would, so that site sees an ordinary request from your device. The page's text is then used on the device to write cards.

Camera, microphone, photos and notifications

You can change any of these permissions at any time in the Settings app.

Backups, export and sharing

Full backups, CSV export and shared decks are files that you create and send where you choose. Franki doesn't keep a copy anywhere else. When someone opens a deck you shared, Franki adds the deck without your progress.

Information Apple may share with developers

Franki itself adds no analytics. If you've turned on sharing with app developers in your device's settings (Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers), Apple may share crash reports and app usage statistics with the developer. You can turn this off at any time.

This website

This website, franki.wiki, is separate from the app: nothing you do here is linked to the app or to your cards.

Children

Franki doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
